Here is what we will be learning in 3rd grade this week.
Upcoming dates to be aware of: No school November 5th Field trip to Booth center November 4th Harvest Lunches Nov. 7th and 8th (see previous blog post for times for each individual class) Reading/ELA: - answering questions in complete sentences using the RAP Strategy - main idea - prefixes and suffixes - verbs Writing: - Students will continue informational writing using the Units of Study program - Students research a topic of their choosing and write down facts about that topic Math: - multiples of 10 - finding the missing number in multiplication and division Social Studies/Science: - Students will finish our unit on Native Americans. Please review the study guide that was sent home on Friday. The Native Americans test will be on Wednesday (10-30-19).

Reading/ELA: - answering questions in complete sentences using the RAP Strategy - understanding the uses of nonfiction context clues - Using the book Bullfrogs to better understand nonfiction texts - understanding suffixes Writing: - Students will begin informational writing using the Units of Study program - Students research a topic of their choosing and write down facts about that topic Math: - multiplication - division - hands on equations Social Studies/Science: - Students will continue our unit on Native Americans. Please read through the Social Studies Weekly that will be coming home with your child. They will need to know how to locate the rivers and mountain ranges provided in the flyer for our test this Thursday. Please see the attached flyer to receive free online tutoring help.

Conference Week Every Day - Early Release at 12:20 Reading/ELA: - answering questions in complete sentences using the RAP Strategy - locating answers within a text using fiction and nonfiction passages - Teachers will use the book My Librarian is a Camel and Bullfrogs to learn text features. Writing: - Students will begin informational writing using the Units of Study program - Students will continue to work on paragraph writing Math: - multiplication - division - hands on equations Social Studies/Science: - Students will finish begin a new unit on Native Americans. Please read through the Social Studies Weekly that will be coming home with your child. They will need to know how to locate the rivers and mountain ranges provided in the flyer for a test in a few weeks. Lost and Found items will be donated on Friday, October 18th. Please check the lost and found next week during conference week for any of your child's belongings.
Red Ribbon Week
October 14th-18th Spirit Days Davis Students are encouraged to participate in the daily themes of Red Ribbon Week. Let’s come together as a school and have some fun while showing our commitment to remaining healthy and drug free. Monday - Wear Clothing Inside Out “Drugs Can Confuse Your Mind and Body” Tuesday – Mis-Matched Clothing Day “Don’t Get Mixed Up with Drugs” Wednesday – Crazy Hair & Socks Day “Don’t Let Drugs Make You CRAZY” Thursday – Animal Print or Davis Tiger Shirt “Wild About Being Healthy and Drug-Free” Friday – Pajama Day “Wake Up to the Dangers of Drugs” ~There will be prizes for crazy hair winners as well as random drawings~ Here is what we will be learning in 3rd grade this week.

ASP will be available each week. Reading/ELA: - answering questions in complete sentences using the RAP Strategy - locating answers within a text using fiction and nonfiction passages - Teachers will use the book My Librarian is a Camel to locate information and and compare different traveling libraries around the world. Writing: - We will all be using the Units of Study program to continue writing personal narratives (will continue throughout the nine weeks) - Students will continue to work on paragraph writing Math: - multiplication - division - word problems Social Studies/Science: - Students will finish creating 3 branches of government videos - Field Trip to Wright Environmental Center to learn about animal adaptations
